BOOKS TO BINGE WHILE YOU’RE STUCK AT HOME

(AS SEEN ON TV)

Hi there, and thanks so much for stopping by to check out my reading recommendations. I’m the international bestselling author of a dozen novels, including The Winemaker’s Wife, which just came out in paperback, and The Book of Lost Names, which will be out this summer from Gallery Books/Simon & Schuster. I write primarily about women facing the hardest times of their lives during World War II, and I know that as a society, we’re all facing a time now that feels impossibly hard. I’m here to remind you that history teaches us there’s always a light on the other side. In the meantime, you can find a bit of comfort within the pages of a good book.

According to a 2009 University of Sussex study, as few as six minutes of reading at a time can reduce your anxiety by up to 68%. Even if you’re busy—even if you have only a few minutes before you go to sleep at night or when you wake up in the morning—this is the time to fall in love with reading again.

Many local bookstores will be struggling not to go under in the coming weeks, and if you order books from them, you’ll be helping enormously. Some are offering curbside service, and many are offering free local delivery and free nationwide shipping. You can even order e-books (more on that below). So definitely order from Amazon or Barnes & Noble if you want, or pick up a paperback when you’re out for groceries at Target, Walmart, Costco, or Sam’s Club (all of which have well-curated book selections), but consider calling and ordering from your local store, too. Many local bookstores also carry puzzles—another fun way to pass the time. A few—such as Book + Bottle, a brand-new bookstore/wine bar in St. Petersburg, Florida—are even offering curbside pickup of wine! Even if you choose to order elsewhere for now, consider calling your local store to pre-order a coming-soon book or to purchase a gift card for future use. It’s a great way to support a local small business, and it’s like giving a gift to your future self.

Please find my recommendations for local stores offering delivery, shipping, and other cool promotions below.

Here are some of the books I’ve recommended on television this month—plus other recommendations to keep you busy and well-read. This is, by no means, a complete list; it’s a collection of books I’ve loved, plus recommendations from fellow readers as well as friends in the publishing industry who often have an inside glimpse of what’s coming next. Check out my web site for more; I’ll be updating kristinharmel.com/tv with new recommendations regularly. I’d also love to hear from you with YOUR book recommendations. You can reach me by email here.

Stay safe, and happy reading!
