June '07 pick: HOW TO BE COOL
Kylie Chase is America's hottest "cool instructor;" it's her job to turn nerdiness into normalcy. But Kylie has a secret; she herself used to be a nerd, and no matter how many designer outfits she has or how many positive writeups her business gets, she still sees herself as the 75-pounds-overweight, friendless girl she was in high school.
Enter Ty Benedict, celebrity journalist extraordinaire, who also happens to be extremely cute and one of America's most eligible bachelors. He;s writing a story on Kylie's cool-instructing business. Will he fall for the new and improved Kylie? Or will he dig too deep into the secrets of her past?
In Johanna Edwards's third chick lit novel, HOW TO BE COOL, Kylie finds out that there's a lot more to being "cool" than she realized. This fast-paced, laugh-out-loud ride through the world of professional cool-instructing is a perfect summer read.
Edwards taps into the "nerd" inside of all of us and blends deep questions of self-doubt with hilarious moments of mounting peril as Kylie talks herself into a hole with a series of innocent lies and misunderstandings with Ty. When her apartment burns down and she's forced to move in with her parents -- the very antithesis of "cool" for a 29-year-old businesswoman -- her life quickly unravels. But it's the way that Kylie learns to deal with disaster that really drives the novel's message home.
For anyone who's ever been plagued with insecurity, this is a fun, frothy must-read!
